Welcome to the website for Milton Keynes Brass, or “MK Brass” for short. MK Brass is a Championship Section brass band, based in Milton Keynes, and serving the surrounding areas of Buckinghamshire, Bedforshire and South Northamptonshire. Until recently MK Brass was known as Broseley Brass.
We hope this site will provide you with some information about the band, what it does, and how to contact us.
One of the top Brass Bands in Southern England
Milton Keynes Brass (MK Brass) is acknowledged as one of the southern region’s premier bands. The band maintains a busy contest and engagement schedule which includes regular bandstand performances in London’s Royal Parks as well as regional and local venues.
The band has also undertaken overseas tours in Germany and Switzerland, and recorded its first CD – “Broseley Bandstand”. In July 2007 the band was asked to take part in the Tring Arts Festival production of the stage play “Brassed Off”, which was a great success.
25th Aniversary in 2009
MK Brass was originally known as Broseley Brass and was formed with just eight players in 1984 through the generous sponsorship of a building company called Broseley Homes Ltd, from which the band took its original name of “Broseley Brass”. Broseley Homes Ltd was involved in the early development of Milton Keynes – the city in which the band is based. The sponsorship deal lapsed many years ago, but having developed its identity locally the band retained the “Broseley” name until 2009.
Musical Director
The band’s musical director for the last nine years has been Paul Fensom, Head of Music for the London Borough of Brent. Under Paul’s guidance the band has had many contest successes; culminating in promotion to the Championship Section 2008.
Development Band
MK Brass also has a thriving Development Band for learners and improvers of all ages. The Development Band has a membership of over thirty players, and it is hoped that many of these players will progress into the senior ensemble. The Development Band is directed by qualified music teacher and brass specialist, David Johnston, who also plays in MK Brass.
Support from MK Community Foundation
MK Brass is pleased to acknowledge the generous support from the MK Community Foundation over the years. In the past the Foundation has helped the band to purchase Percussion Equipment, Tubas and most recently Stand Banners.
Thank-you MKCF!
